Colour of The Year - 2022

As we see in the New Year, it’s time to bid farewell to Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Grey, the two shades which were chosen by Pantone to symbolise unity and hope throughout 2021.

After much consideration, the colour experts of Pantone (who are at the forefront of forecasting global colour trends) have unveiled Very Peri as the Colour of 2022, a shade representative of adaptation and transformation. It’s a very specific shade of periwinkle which combines the steady tranquility of blue with an energetic infusion of red. Consequently, this balance of warm and cool undertones means that this is a shade that will flatter all skin types, so you can enjoy wearing it in the confidence that it really suits you.

Interestingly, this is the first time that Pantone have chosen a Colour of the Year which does not pre-exist within their vast archives - which is a bold and meaningful move. Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute explains “Creating a new colour for the first time in the history of our Pantone Colour of the Year educational colour program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognise colour as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.

Very Peri will take the fashion industry by storm becoming the most ‘on-trend’ colour, set to feature heavily in the Spring catwalks, then filtering down onto the High Street. However it will also set the tone for the consumer products industry. So, if you love the shade but don’t necessarily want to wear it - fear not! There are still plenty of ways to inject Very Peri into your life through a variety of other means such as jewellery, home decor or even stationary.
